Overview
Facheaux Bay is a remote wilderness area along the spectacular south coast of Newfoundland. The proposed reserve runs along two deep fjords that stretch southward to the Atlantic Ocean. The proposed reserve also includes long river valleys carved into the rocky highlands, with tall waterfalls cascading down smooth granite walls. Forested areas are limited, mainly found in sheltered spots like coves and valleys. The northern part of the proposed reserve contains important habitat for south coast caribou herds, especially in fall and winter. Facheaux Bay is not only a place of breathtaking landscapes but also a place with a rich cultural history and sites of cultural significance. Conserving this wild space builds a future where the land stays as it is, and local and visiting people can enjoy traditional, recreational, and subsistence activities for years to come.
